Khadijah Queen's verse play Non-Sequitur (Litmus Press 2015) won the Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women's Performance Writing. The prize included a full staged production of the play at Theaterlab NYC from December 10 - 20, 2015 by Fiona Templeton's The Relationship theater company.

The research Templeton conducted for the direction of the play aimed to investigate the embodiment of feminism and race in a theatre setting, and how a dense and cryptic poetic text can translate to the spoken voice.

Templeton used actors’ experiences of the issues, which informed casting and directing. However, she found that this did not necessarily translate into casting according to type, and indeed cross-casting allowed deeper exploration and more complex embodiment. Complex language was approached via radical choices in timing and space through which the apparently a-contextual scenes and text became likely and recognisable to the audience.
