Brunel Public Policy brief: hydrogen combustion engines produce zero carbon and ultra-low NOx emissions with superior engine thermal efficiency compared with fossil fuel engines. Compared with hydrogen Fuel Cells (FC), they do not require rare materials or purified hydrogen, and are much cheaper and more reliable. They can be manufactured using existing capabilities and supply chains, making hydrogen combustion engines a sustainable and affordable candidate to decarbonise transport.
